The Journey of the Torch
An experience design created with local children for the School Olympics final in the Capital of Children.
With the aim of involving local children in creating an experience design for the School Olympics final in the Capital of Children, the concept of the torch relay began. This concept focused on the core values of the School Olympics (skill, community, and fair play) and the Capital of Children (learning through play, child involvement, community, and democracy).
It quickly became evident that the Olympic flame, as a symbol of community, was the perfect starting point for such a design.
In collaboration with Culture Crew students from Billund Municipality, an experience design centered around community was developed. Since spring, children from local daycare centers and schools have created unique torches in workshops, representing their class or team.
These torches were used in the opening ceremony as a symbol of community. During School Olympics week, everyone could contribute to the Community Bonfire by painting stones and creating flames, which made the fire grow.
