FIRST LEGO League
Focus on natural science
FIRST LEGO League is a science-technology tournament which is held every year in november.
The aim of the tournament is, among other things, to inspire children and young people aged 10-16 to become tomorrow's engineers, researchers and problem solvers. During the working period, participants will have the opportunity to try programming, explore an exciting theme, experience creative joy and bring their own ideas to life. CoC Playful Minds hosts the local FIRST LEGO League event in Billund every year.
Set of values
The basic set of values in FIRST LEGO League is what sets the project apart from other scientific projects:
- We are a team.
- We find the solutions with the guidance of our team leaders and mentors.
- We know that our team leaders and mentors don't have an answer for everything, so we learn together.
- We value friendly competition.
- What we learn is more important than what we can win.
- We share our experiences with others.
- We show professionalism and cooperation in everything we do.
- We have fun.
The FIRST LEGO League assignment
Each year comes a new and inspiring task with a socially relevant theme that is the same for all participating teams in all countries. There is no task list for the assignment, which means that students need their ingenuity, creativity and co-creative skills.
The assignment is divided into three challenges: research, technology and profiling.
In the research assignment, the teams themselves must define a problem. They need to find and research the facts about it and present their own solution.
In the technology assignment, the teams must build a robot and programme it to solve tasks on a robot field.
In the profiling task, the teams have to work on profiling and branding their idea and project to others.
